What's New in CrystalMaker 4.0?
New Selection & Editing Tools
CrystalMaker's
selection tools have further strengthened with release 4.0. There
is a new "Selection" menu, with a number of tools to
make selecting and manipulating molecular units or crystal clusters
easier - plus the much-requested ability to edit individual atom
colours and/or radii.
Some of the selection
tools are also available via a popup (contextual) menu in the
graphics window (hold down the control key on your keyboard and
click in the graphics window).
The new selection
tools include:-
- Hide Other Molecules command: hides all molecular units
which do not contain selected atoms. This makes it much easier
to isolate individual molecules in a molecular crystal.
- Select Entire Molecule command: selects all other atoms within
the same molecule. This command is very useful when moving one
group of atoms relative to another (e.g., when attempting to
visualize the appearance of a molecule on a crystal surface).
- Change Atom Colour: the colour of any selected atom(s)
can now be independently set - regardless of crystallographic
site or element type. This is particularly useful for highlighting
aspects of a complex crystal structure: you might wish to display
most of the structure in blue, with (say) a structural channel
drawn in red.
- Change Atom Type command (molecules only): a very quick
and easy way to edit a molecule. With this command you can change
an atom's element, its radius and colour. For example, you can
build a new molecule from scratch by starting off with a single
atom (defined in the Edit > Molecule dialog), then duplicating
it and changing its type to whatever new atom types you desire.
- Edit Coordinates command: for molecules you can edit
an atom's orthogonal coordinates, without having to go to the
Edit > Molecule dialog. For groups of atoms, or for crystals,
you can define an offset in Angstrom units, through which the
selected atoms will be translated.
- Reset Atom Colours command: all atom colours are reset
to the colours defined by their element types.
